## Biography

Adam Wardziński is a Polish Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Alan “Finfou” do Nascimento and a longtime representative of Checkmat. Born on April 22, 1991 in western Poland (associated with Poznań), he first trained martial arts at 14 through aikido before discovering competitive grappling. He began jiu-jitsu at 18 under Karol Matuszczak of Combat Zone Poznań, a pioneering Polish coach, and rose from white to brown belt under Matuszczak while already teaching a growing student group in Poznań.

As a brown belt Wardziński connected with Finfou, then based in Sweden, inviting him to Poland for a seminar and affiliating with his Checkmat branch. In October 2016 Finfou promoted him to black belt, with Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida among those present. His nickname “Megatron” comes from his playful personality—famously spending a team bus trip pretending to shoot teammates with a Transformers Megatron toy.

Technically Wardziński is one of the most influential butterfly-guard players of the modern IBJJF era, often combining overhook belt grips, single-leg X transitions, and half-guard / knee-shield control with pressure on top. Signature finishes include chokes from the back and the arm-in Ezekiel. He was a consistent heavyweight medal threat for nearly a decade: ADCC European Trials champion (2018), AJP Abu Dhabi World Pro gold (2021), IBJJF No-Gi World champion (2019), multi-time European and Pan champion, and a dramatic 2023 Pan final comeback against Fellipe Andrew after trailing late.

In June 2024 he became the first European man to win an IBJJF black-belt World Championship (heavyweight), and the first Polish grappler to take an IBJJF world title. In 2025 he completed a historic IBJJF Grand Slam—European, Brazilian Nationals (Brasileiro), Pan-American, and World gold in the same season—the first European to do so. After winning his second Worlds title in 2025 he left his black belt on the mat and announced his retirement from full-time competition, cementing a legacy as the most decorated European IBJJF competitor of his generation and a pioneer for Polish and European gi jiu-jitsu.
