Ana Carolina Vieira

Ana Carolina Vieira Srour, widely known as “Baby” or “Carol,” was born on November 19, 1993, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She first wanted to pursue gymnastics, then trained capoeira before adding Brazilian jiu-jitsu around age 14. The early environment was not easy: BJJ Heroes and other profiles note that she stopped training for a period because there were no other girls in class and the bruises from daily practice made her self-conscious. At 17, after watching her older brother Rodolfo Vieira compete and seeing the family support around him, she returned to jiu-jitsu with a clearer competitive purpose.

Vieira’s first coach was Gabriel Marinho at ProCombat. Her breakthrough came at the 2012 Abu Dhabi World Pro trials in Gramado, Brazil, shortly after she received her blue belt. Reluctant to enter such a difficult event, she was encouraged by Rodolfo, won four matches against experienced opposition, and reached the final against Monique Elias. That run convinced her that jiu-jitsu could become a profession. She then moved deeper into Grappling Fight Team, training under Julio César Pereira at the GFT headquarters and later working at SK2 Training with Luiz Fernando.

From 2012 through 2016, Vieira built one of the strongest colored-belt resumes in women’s jiu-jitsu. She won IBJJF World titles at blue, purple, and brown belt, including a 2013 blue-belt weight-and-absolute double, and collected Brazilian Nationals and UAEJJF Grand Slam results along the way. In June 2016 Julio César promoted her to black belt. The promotion coincided with GFTeam’s rise as a major women’s competition room, alongside athletes such as Mayssa Bastos, Amanda Monteiro, Vanessa Oliveira, Thamires Aquino, and others.

Her black-belt career delivered immediately. Vieira won the IBJJF World Championship in 2017, then repeated in 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022, becoming a five-time black-belt World champion across middle and medium-heavy divisions. She also won the 2018 IBJJF World No-Gi Championship, multiple Pan Championship titles, two Abu Dhabi World Pro titles, and the 2020 Third Coast Grappling Kumite 7 grand prix. Her best work has often come from a heavy, methodical passing game: BJJ Heroes lists knee slide and toreando passing as signature techniques, while FloGrappling’s results archive shows a career full of decision, points, choke, and arm-triangle wins against elite opposition.

Vieira added a defining no-gi title at the 2024 ADCC World Championship. After winning the second South American Trials, she entered the −65 kg world bracket and defeated Amanda Leve, Beatriz Mesquita, and Helena Crevar to take gold in Las Vegas. Off the competition mat, she and her wife Luanna Alzuguir, herself an IBJJF Hall of Fame world champion and 2009 ADCC champion, co-founded Aviv Jiu-Jitsu in Florida. The academy has become Vieira’s main professional base and a continuation of a career that links the Rodolfo Vieira family legacy, GFTeam’s Fadda-lineage system, and one of modern women’s grappling’s most decorated records.
