## Biography

Brianna Ste-Marie is a Canadian Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Fabio Holanda and Leonardo Saggioro, representing Brazilian Top Team while also training and coaching at Mizu Studio in Montreal. Born on August 30, 1996, in Montreal, Quebec, she grew up in Pierrefonds and came to grappling after a serious youth rugby career. BJJ Heroes traces her early athletic life through soccer and rugby, including years with the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue rugby club and a final college season at Concordia University in 2015 before she shifted her focus to jiu-jitsu.

Ste-Marie first reached the mats through her father, a martial arts fan and practitioner who brought her to a local BTT affiliate. By 2016, at 19, she had left rugby for grappling. Her early instructors included Frederic Koomsatira and Leonardo Saggioro, with Saggioro pushing her toward competition; she later trained at BTT Canada's headquarters with Saggioro and Fabio Holanda. Both coaches promoted her through the belts, culminating in her black belt promotion from Holanda on December 4, 2021, shortly after her ADCC East Coast Trials title.

Her colored-belt rise was built on major IBJJF and submission-only results. She won IBJJF Pan titles in gi and no-gi at blue and purple belt, captured IBJJF World No-Gi gold at purple in 2019 and brown in 2021, and added American Nationals and European Open titles before black belt. Outside IBJJF rulesets, she won the EBI Combat Jiu-Jitsu Worlds 125 lb tournament in 2020 and the Medusa 135 lb combat jiu-jitsu tournament in 2021, developing the pressure-passing and submission-finishing identity that became central to her black-belt run.

The 2021-2022 ADCC cycle made Ste-Marie one of Canadian grappling's defining names. She won the ADCC East Coast Trials in 2021 and the West Coast Trials in 2022, then reached the 2022 ADCC World Championship final at -60 kg after defeating Elvira Karppinen and returning champion Bianca Basilio. Her silver medal behind Ffion Davies was recognized as a historic Canadian ADCC podium finish, and she followed the same year with the Who's Number One 135 lb title and a decision win over Mayssa Bastos in the first women's main event in WNO history.

Ste-Marie has remained active across gi and no-gi at black belt.
