Deandre Corbe

Deandre Villarama Corbe is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Nestor Bayot and one of Standard Jiu-Jitsu's leading lighter-weight competitors. Born on December 2, 1995, in Toronto, Canada, he moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia, and built his early martial arts base through striking before grappling became his main competitive outlet. BJJ Heroes records that he began Muay Thai at age 11, competed in exhibition and sanctioned Muay Thai/kickboxing bouts as a teenager, and was trusted to instruct by age 15.

Corbe first tried Brazilian jiu-jitsu in September 2009 at age 13 under Nestor Bayot, whose academy also housed the striking program where he trained. He soon added folkstyle wrestling to solve a perceived gap in his grappling, wrestling all four years of high school and setting his school's record with 142 wins. That wrestling background became central to his no-gi identity: pressure, positional control, composed scrambles, and a willingness to wrestle through long brackets rather than rely only on guard work.

Even as his competition results grew, Corbe kept a parallel academic and professional track. He earned a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked in the field while climbing the adult black-belt scene, a dual path repeatedly emphasized by BJJ Heroes, Digitsu, FloGrappling, and later Jits Magazine coverage. Bayot promoted him to black belt on June 7, 2018, making him the first athlete developed from Bayot's kids program to black belt within the same system. A few years later Corbe joined Greg Souders at Standard Jiu-Jitsu, where his game became closely associated with the team's constraint-led, ecological training approach.

His black-belt resume is strongest in no-gi featherweight competition. Corbe reached IBJJF Pan No-Gi podiums in 2021 and 2022, won the 2022 IBJJF Pan No-Gi Championship, placed third at the 2022 IBJJF No-Gi Worlds, and improved to silver at the 2023 No-Gi Worlds. The breakthrough ADCC result came at the 2024 North American West Coast Trials in Las Vegas, where he won the -66 kg division for Standard BJJ, beating Gianni Grippo in the quarterfinals, submitting his brother Gavin Corbe in the semifinals, and defeating Keith Krikorian in the final to qualify for the 2024 ADCC World Championship.

After ADCC, Corbe remained active across the pro no-gi circuit. BJJ Heroes' record notes wins at Sapateiro events, AIGA, ADCC Opens, and WNO, while Jits Magazine reported that his $100,000 Sapateiro World Championship win and CJI 2 invitation helped push both Deandre and Gavin Corbe to leave conventional jobs for full-time jiu-jitsu. In 2026 FloGrappling followed his WNO 32 preparation at Standard Jiu-Jitsu, where he beat Max Hanson before losing a referee decision to Dorian Olivarez in the lightweight grand prix final. His competitive record shows a well-rounded submission spread - armbars, inside heel hooks, rear naked chokes, shoulder locks, kneebars, and back attacks - backed by the measured decision-making of a former engineer.
