## Biography

Meyram Maquine Alves—often listed simply as Meyram Maquine, and occasionally as Meyram Dias—was born on October 29, 2000, in Manaus, Amazonas, and entered martial arts through capoeira at age five under the influence of his father, a capoeira and jiu-jitsu enthusiast. He moved onto the BJJ mats soon afterward, first training under Alcenor Alves, who guided him through his early development and encouraged the move from Manaus to a deeper competitive room in Sao Paulo.

That move took Meyram to Guigo Jiu-Jitsu, where Luiz "Guigo" Guilherme became his main coach and later his black-belt instructor. As a blue belt he emerged as one of Brazil's more promising lightweight prospects, and his international profile accelerated through annual training camps in Maryland with Team Lloyd Irvin beginning in 2016. BJJ Heroes credits that Guigo JJ and TLI exchange with helping turn his colored-belt promise into major IBJJF and UAEJJF results across the World, Pan, South American, Brazilian Nationals, Abu Dhabi Grand Slam, and World Pro circuits.

After strong colored-belt seasons from 2017 through 2019, the 2020 pandemic interrupted what was intended to be his final brown-belt campaign. Guigo promoted him to black belt on June 20, 2020 rather than leave his career stalled. Meyram quickly proved the timing right: he won the 2021 Brazilian Nationals at light feather, captured his first black-belt IBJJF World title in 2022 at 64 kg, and added Pan, South American, AJP Grand Slam London, AJP King of Mats, Spyder Korea Grand Prix, and Abu Dhabi World Pro titles over the next seasons.

His defining gi season came at the 2024 IBJJF World Championship. Moving up from light feather to featherweight, he won gold in the 70 kg division for Fratres Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and also entered the absolute, beating much larger opponents Angelo Claiborne and Roberto Jimenez before taking bronze. IBJJF highlighted the run as only the second time a featherweight had reached the black-belt absolute podium at Worlds, matching Royler Gracie's 1997 benchmark. He followed that with another Worlds silver in 2025 and continued to take high-level wins over names such as Diogo Reis, Owen Jones, Gabriel Sousa, and Alex Sodre.

Meyram's game is built around speed, back exposure, and relentless finishing. BJJ Heroes lists more than half of his recorded wins by submission, with chokes from the back and armbars accounting for the bulk of those finishes; ONE Championship similarly framed him as a submission hunter suited to faster no-gi rulesets.
